FAQ
Honest answers about chips, certificates and chains.
What is a 'chipped painting'?
+
A small NFC tag, RFID chip or tamper-evident QR sticker is bonded to a non-visible part of the work — the stretcher bar, panel reverse, or sculpture base. Scanning it opens the artwork's permanent passport page.
Do I need a blockchain wallet to use Artovium?
+
No. Every artwork lives in our database first. On-chain anchoring and NFT minting are optional layers — you can verify, transfer and resell without ever touching crypto.
What happens if the chip is damaged or removed?
+
Tags can be replaced. The new chip is logged in the artwork's provenance ledger and the old one is marked 'replaced' or 'compromised'. The passport URL never changes.
Is Artovium compatible with Apple and Android phones?
+
Yes. NFC tags are read by any modern iPhone (iOS 14+) or Android device. Older phones can use the QR fallback printed alongside the tag.
Who can see the certificate and ownership history?
+
Certificate and verification status are public. Current-owner identity is private by default — collectors can choose to display, anonymise or fully hide their record.
Do you take a cut on resale?
+
Artovium does not take resale fees. Artists can configure optional royalties on works minted as NFTs; those are enforced by the smart contract, not by us.
How does AR / XR work?
+
Exhibitions render in WebXR on supported devices and fall back to a fully responsive 2D catalogue everywhere else. No app install required.
Where is my data hosted?
+
Records are stored in encrypted EU-based databases with daily backups. You can export your full archive at any time as JSON, CSV or IIIF manifests.
